Let Time Pass is an interactive narrative about having and dealing with cancer. It started as a twine project for the course: User-experience and Prototyping and evolved into a personal pet project. I am now in the process of ‘untwining’ it and making it a bit more approachable and inviting - also it works as my ‘get to know unity for realz’ project.

The thesis aimed to examine the differences in players' emotional responses elicited by playing the same horror game in room-scale Virtual Reality (HTC Vive) and on a conventional PC setup with an Xbox controller - to add a data point in the debate on whether VR is ‘scarier’.

Research Question — What are the self-reported and measurable psychophysiological differences in fright responses when comparing the same game experience played in two different mediums?

To conduct our research we applied a mixed-methodology approach that combined, questionnaire, interviews and readings from physiological responses.

We designed and conducted an experiment. For stimuli, we adapted, in collaboration with a third party, an existing horror title to work on both PC and room scale VR.

Players' affective experiences were quantitatively measured by analysing data from their physiological signals while playing. Their subjective experience was recorded by the means of semi-structured interviews, and questionnaire. Statistical evaluation was be conducted by including scale-type questions to get an idea of the magnitude of feelings, and by direct comparison of the scenarios.
